Milan Design Week 2025: A Whirlwind of Light and Innovation

This past month, the Atrium team journeyed to the heart of design – Milan – for the highly anticipated Milan Design Week. Our focus? Euroluce, the prestigious lighting exhibition held as part of the Salone del Mobile trade fair. Set against the captivating backdrop of Milan, Euroluce once again proved to be a melting pot of visionary designers, cutting-edge technology, and groundbreaking ideas in the world of lighting.

We were incredibly proud to lend our support to our esteemed partner brands: Flos, Intra Lighting, Luxxbox, Vibia, and Platek. Witnessing their latest innovations firsthand was an absolute pleasure, and the opportunity to connect with fellow industry professionals, engaging in conversations that will undoubtedly shape the future of lighting, was truly invaluable.

The sheer scale of the 2025 Salone del Mobile was remarkable, drawing a total of 302,548 visitors and hosting 2,103 exhibitors from 37 countries. What began as a furniture-focused event has blossomed into a comprehensive showcase of design disciplines, with Euroluce standing as a significant pillar.

We were thrilled by the exceptional turnout, bringing fresh perspectives to the exceptional craftsmanship and unique luminaires our partner brands consistently deliver.

Euroluce: Our Highlights

The buzz around Flos‘s showcase was palpable, and the new Noctumbule additions certainly played a starring role. These elegant ceiling and wall fixtures possessed an undeniable allure, drawing visitors in and inviting them to explore the wider Flos collection. It was also wonderful to see iconic Flos designs, such as SuperWire and Luce Orizzontale, displayed alongside their latest designs, a testament to their enduring focus on innovation.

Intra Lighting sparked considerable conversation with the introduction of a striking new yellow finish for their Pyrymyd luminaire. Equally exciting was their innovative Rynk system, seamlessly integrating acoustic features and spotlights, offering a highly customizable solution for diverse project requirements. Our team was particularly impressed by their forward-thinking approach to miniaturised track fittings and the integration of acoustics into architectural lighting.

The Luxxbox space masterfully demonstrated the powerful synergy between light and acoustics. Their immersive collaboration with the Panzeri group was a highlight, and it was fantastic to see some of our beloved Luxxbox luminaires, including Kurtain and Hemii, in action, showcasing their ability to create both visually stunning and acoustically comfortable environments.

Charlie Petschi from our team found a wellspring of inspiration in Vibia‘s new Closer collection. These gentle luminaires, crafted with woven materials, create an intimate and inviting lighting effect. Their adjustable volume and portability make them ideal for creating soothing atmospheres, both indoors and out. The team was also captivated by the gorgeous and minimalist outdoor presence of Vibia’s Nenuphar, and the truly unique and structural design of the Veil lighting system.

The experience of Platek‘s display was simply breathtaking. Linebreak, an elegant line of light designed to subtly highlight pathways, stood out for its discreet yet powerful nature. For similar reasons, we were delighted to see Egad shine, embodying a refined and impactful approach to outdoor illumination.

Beyond the fair: Fuorisalone

Beyond the Salone del Mobile, the vibrant energy of Fuorisalone permeated the city. Milan’s spaces, buildings, and courtyards transformed into temporary showrooms and stages for spectacular installations. Flos and Platek both presented their stunning luminaires in dedicated showroom spaces, with the long queues outside their doors serving as a clear indication of the admiration for their work.

We were also deeply inspired by British designer Es Devlin’s Library of Light installation at the Pinacoteca di Brera gallery, located in the famous Brera Design District. This breathtaking library, loosely inspired by a carousel and featuring 3,000 donated books by Italian publishing house Feltrinelli, was illuminated by a clean, white LED light, creating a truly unforgettable experience.

The installation was more than just a visual spectacle; it was a testament to the power of collaboration and the evocative potential of light. The clean, focused illumination allowed the books themselves to take center stage, their presence amplified by the elegant structure. It was a truly unforgettable experience, a moment of quiet contemplation amidst the bustling energy of Milan Design Week, and a powerful reminder of the profound impact that thoughtful design can have on our perception of space and art.

With so much to explore and discover during their time in Milan, it’s no wonder the Atrium team returned to England feeling incredibly inspired. We are already eagerly anticipating our return next year, ready to immerse ourselves once again in the forefront of lighting design!
