Germany is universally recognised for its outstanding ability to generate technological excellence where its competitors seem at best content to offer merely good industrial output, it is essentially owed to a few highly concentrated geographical areas, of which one is located around Friedrichshafen, on the northern shore of Lake Konstanz whose waters are the meeting point of Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
All along the course of the twentieth century, such prestigious and world leading companies as Zeppelin and Dornier in aerospace, MTU (Motoren und Turbinen Union) in power generation, ZF in power transmission, driveline and chassis technologies, etc.. all based around Friedrichshafen have created a pocket of high tech culture which has proven to be of the highest benefit to the local industrial corporations, large and small, of which LTS is a typical example.
Founded in 1985 and located in the middle of a region known as the Apple Orchard of Germany, minutes away from the outskirts of Friedrichshafen, LTS is the archetypal young, dynamic and innovative firm having benefitted from the local culture of industrial excellence. Its 250 strong workforce is directly involved with the design, the manufacture and the assembly of all the key components of its luminaire production.
Unlike most of its European competitors, LTS's use of subcontractors is kept to a minimum, resulting in optimal quality control and exceptional production flexibility, especially where stringent deadlines are to be met.
Unlike most of its competitors too, LTS made the choice many years ago not to outsource the design and manufacture of its reflectors, a decision which has won peer recognition where the efficiency of its luminaires is concerned, producing up to 30% more light through the use of a given lamp in a given environment whilst extending the service life of the lamp as a consequence of the design of the reflector. The PRI technology applied in the design and manufacture of all LTS reflectors has also resulted in a luminaire collection virtually glare free in operation. As another facet to the same manufacturing philosophy, LTS carries out the epoxy coating of all its production, here again being in full control of quality of finishes.
Such a level of self sufficiency and control of the manufacturing cycle of course contributes to an unusually high level of in-house productivity, however, more than anything else it also directly contributes to answering the customer's needs, whether in the context of lead-time or that of special and one-off specifications.
